Hands
When it comes to beauty treatments we often forget about our hands. Use this hand mask to exfoliate, soften and moisturize your skin.
What you’ll need:
Method: Combine all ingredients and then massage into your hands and leave for 10 minutes before rinsing off with warm water. For a concentrated treatment, apply the hand mask and then pop on some cotton gloves before bedtime and then wash your hands (and the gloves) the next morning. The same mask and method can also be used on your feet.
For the best moisturizing mask you can try a mashed potato mask (this is good for the whole body, too, including the face). Make two cups worth of instant mashed potatoes, using two tablespoons of olive oil in place of the butter/margarine. Let the mixture cool to room temperature and then spread it on your hands. This mask can actually stay on the skin until it is starting to dry before it needs to be rinsed off.
For an exfoliating hand mask you can mix one mashed up avocado with one or two tablespoons of corn meal. The good oils in avocado will help soften the hands while the corn meal’s gritty texture will aid in sloughing off dead skin cells. This mask should be applied in a circular motion, to remove the dead skin, then left on for the five minutes of moisturizing.
If you need some extra strength hand softening, look no further than the milk and honey hand mask. This recipe calls for two tablespoons of honey combined with a half cup of plain yogurt. If you would like to add some vitamins into the mix, which can be very revitalizing for overworked hands, add in half of a ripe peach, mashed up.
Our hands can reveal about us a lot more than we would like. Things like health and age are easy predicted by just looking at someone’s hands. Daily care for hands must become a habit because hands undergo harmful abuse from the environment more frequently than the remaining body.
Since domestic work is most frequently carried out by women, their hands constantly come into contact with water, which leads to the disappearance of skin’s natural oils. The rougher the water, the more rapidly the skin of hands dries up, and loses its beauty.
The skin on the back side of your hands is in many respects similar to the skin on the face. Why it is more inclined to inflammation and peeling? For the same reason – frequent contact with water, soap and other everyday chemicals.
The following things can help return hands to back their unspoiled state.
Hand Massage
Q: Why massage your hands???
A: Vigorous rubbing stimulates the flow of blood to the skin which helps heal any wounds and rejuvenate the skin.
What you can do:
After washing your hands, apply a lotion or hand cream and begin the massage. While applying the lotion, massage your fingers and palms as if you were putting on a glove. Start at the tip of your fingers and work your way down to your palm. Then do the same motions on the back of the hand. Alternate hands and do the same on the other hand.
Instead of using the hand cream you could use a vegetable oil, preferably olive oil. The rubbing will help the oils natural ingredients absorb into the skin.
Hand Scrubs
If you have rough hands:
Steam you hands by holding them in front of boiling water (careful not to burn yourself). After a couple of minutes, when the skin is noticeably softened, apply vegetable oil and cornmeal and scrub your bands. You control how hard you scrub. Do it gently enough that you don’t hurt yourself but hard enough that you take off some dead skin. Instead of the cornmeal you could use a loofah sponge.
If you have delicate hand:
Apply vegetable oil and sugar. Massage your hands. The sugar will dissolve so you might need to reapply more sugar.
Hand scrubs could be repeated once a week.
Homemade Hand Masks
** Apply mask- compress to clean dry hands, cover with special paper and put on warm mittens. Leave compress for 30 minutes, then remove mittens, wash off mask with warm water. Masks for hands should be used as needed. **
· Cornstarch and glycerin: Mix 40ml warm water with 4 gm cornstarch and 56 gm of glycerin
· Mashed Potatoes mask: Mash two unpeeled potatoes; add 50 gm. of milk and a tea spoon of olive oil. Soften hands with some heated olive oil. Put on cotton gloves. Olive oil possesses unique healthful action that is especially useful for treating inflamed and pealing skin. If possible, leave this compress on the entire night. The effects of mask increase, if before the procedure, hands are soaked in hot water for 2-3 minutes. This will help open up the pores in your skin.
· Overnight Olive Oil Mask: Rub olive oil on your hands, put on cotton gloves (or socks) for the whole night. In the morning, wash hands and moisturize with a hand cream.
· Cottage cheese and sunflower oil mask: take a little cottage cheese and several drops of the sunflower oil and rub it on your hands.
· Mayonnaise Mask: take mayonnaise, apply to the hands abundantly, and to then put on rubber gloves. Wash off after 30 min with warm water.
· Mask with carrots: on a large grater rub one carrot, add one table spoon of sour cream and one tea spoon of olive oil. Thoroughly mix.

1. Make Nail Polish Last Longer
A CLEAN START. To make nail polish last longer, you must make sure the polish has a clean, dry surface to attach to. First, remove all old nail polish from your nails, if applicable. Make sure it is completely removed or your new nail polish will not last. Next, soak your hands in warm, soapy water, then scrub gently with a cloth to remove chemical and moisture residue. Allow your hands to dry completely.
2. Make Nail Polish Last Longer
REMOVE SNAGS AND CRACKS. Make sure the nails, themselves, are in tip top condition. Clip your nails down as far as is comfortable and necessary to achieve a uniform length and strong nail base. Next, file away any potential snags. Even a tiny ridge at the tip of a fingernail can compromise a manicure, and result in chipping.
3. Make Nail Polish Last Longer
APPLY BASE COAT. A Base Coat provides an ideal surface for nail polish to adhere to. This step is optional, but recommended. Applying a thin base coat to your nails will make you nail polish last longer and look smoother. Dry for 15 minutes, or according to instructions.
4. Make Nail Polish Last Longer
APPLY POLISH. Applying polish can be tricky. Applying too little at once will result in excessive coats that will leave the nail polish weak and flaky. Too much nail polish at once will interfere with proper drying, which can lead to ripples and peeling. Try to apply just enough to cover the nail without showing brush strokes. If you do not achieve the desired color, move on to the next step.
5. DRY AFTER EACH COAT.
Each coat of nail polish should be given at least 15 minutes to air dry before another is applied, or a top coat is applied. It is absolutely essential your nails dry completely at ever step of the process. Do not cheat yourself of drying time if you want to make nail polish last longer. If nails aren’t dry within 20 minutes, you have likely applied too much polish at once or you have applied too many coats too quickly.
6. CLEAR COAT.
Apply a top coat, or clear coat, when your nails are completely dry. To help make sure your nails have dried completely, try applying the final coat of polish half an hour before bed time, and then apply the top coat in the morning.

1. Fill a small bowl with warm water and a few drops of liquid soap. Apply cuticle oil onto your cuticles, and place your hands into the warm water for 10 to 15 minutes. The cuticle oil and warm soapy water soften cuticles and make nails look brighter and shinier.
2. Remove your hands from the bowl and pat them dry with a soft towel. Push back the cuticles with birchwood sticks or a cuticle pusher. Use the birchwood sticks to clean any dirt underneath your fingernails.
3. File your nails to a length that you’re comfortable with. If your nails are longer than 1 cm, use a nail trimmer to trim them slightly before filing. Round the edges of your fingernails with the nail file.
4. Sweep the nail buffer across the surface of your nails in a side to side motion. Then use the nail polisher (not to be confused with nail polish or lacquer) in a similar motion to smooth the surface of your nails. Finally, rub the nail shiner onto your nails to bring them to a high shine. Try Sephora’s Four-in-One Buffer which contains the filer, buffer, polisher and shiner all in one convenient bar.
5. Apply some hand lotion to hydrate your hands. Apply a coat of clear nail polish to make your nails even shinier (optional).

Instructions
1. Use the cotton balls and non acetone nail polish remover to remove any remaining nail polish from your last manicure. Use non acetone nail polish remover on natural nails because acetone is too harsh to be used on natural nails. Acetone nail polish remover should only be used to remove artificial nails.
2. Wash your hands with the hand soap thoroughly. Pay particular attention to cleaning your natural nails. You want to make sure you remove any remaining residue from the nail polish remover. Let your natural nails dry completely before you apply nail polish.
3. Dip the nail polish brush in to the colored nail polish. Swipe the brush down the middle of your natural nail. With out reloading the nail polish brush, swipe down the two sides of the natural nail that are still exposed after the first swipe. Repeat this step once if you feel you need to with the colored nail polish. Repeat this step with all of your natural nails.
4. Let the colored nail polish dry completely on your natural nails.
5. Use the clear nail polish and repeat the actions of step 3 with all of your natural nails. This top coat will help to keep the nail polish from chipping off your natural nails. This step will need to be repeated at least once a week to keep your natural nails looking there best.
6. Allow you nail natural nails to dry thoroughly.

1. Remove your nail polish. Before starting your own manicure, take a cotton ball and nail polish remover to get rid of your old polish.
2. Cut your nails to the length you desire with a nail trimmer. Check the length of the fingernails on both hands to make sure that they’re the same.
3. Take a nail file and smooth down the cut nails. Use the nail file to get the nail shape you want.
4. Soak your hands in warm water for about 5 minutes. This loosens the skin around your cuticles. After your hands are softened, you can take a cuticle stick and push back the cuticles.
5. Moisturize your hands and nails. Rub a generous amount of hand cream on your nails and hands. This further softens the skin and also soothes any discomfort you may feel after using the cuticle stick.
6. Wash and dry your hands. Before you apply the new polish, you should wash your hands with a moisturizing soap. Use a clean towel to dry your hands thoroughly.
7. Apply your new nail polish color. Take your time and let each coat dry before applying a new one. Put on two coats of the color and then a clear top coat.

Things You’ll Need:
1. Spread a hand towel out on the manicuring table. You will need the hand towel for wiping the nails and to protect the table from chemicals that may spill while you are performing a manicure.
2. Remove any polish from the nails using nail polish remover and a cotton ball. File the free edge of all of the nails to the desired shape using a 240-grit nail file. File the nails in one direction to avoid splitting or tearing the nail.
3. Buff under the free edge of the nails using the fine side of the three-way buffer. This will remove snags left behind on the nails after filing.
4. Fill the manicure bowl with warm soapy water. Apply cuticle-remover cream to the cuticles on the nails of one hand and place the nails into the manicure bowl to soak for three minutes. Apply cuticle remover cream to the nails on the other hand.
5. Remove the hand from the manicure bowl and place the other hand in the manicure bowl to soak. Push back the cuticles with a cuticle pusher on the hand that you have just removed from the manicure bowl. Tear off a small piece of a cotton ball and wrap the cotton around the end of an orange-wood stick and gently clean under the free edge of the nails.
6. Repeat the pushing of the cuticles back and cleaning under the free edge of the nail on the other hand.
7. Wipe the nails on both hands with a hand towel and apply lotion or massage oil to one hand. Massage the fingers, nails, palm of the hand and the top of hand with your thumbs using a circular motion. Repeat on the other hand.
8. Buff the nails if desired. Use the medium side of the buffer, then the fine side of the buffer making sure not to buff the nails too much as this can make the nails thin.
9. Wipe the nails with alcohol and a cotton pad to remove oil from the nail before polishing.
10. Apply the base coat to the nails. Wait one minute for the base coat to dry and then apply the nail polish to the nails. Apply the top coat to the nails and wait one minute before putting nails into a nail dryer.
